HONEST JOHN’S

With early bird, brunch, and night owl menus, Honest John’s is ready to serve you from the early morning hours to those late night times when you need to grab a bite after an event. Managing partner John shares that, “Honest John’s is a nearly 40-year-old neighborhood bar and grill. Serving students, nurses, doctors, trades, and everyone in between, Honest John’s is truly the intersection of Detroit.”
UNION ASSEMBLY

Offering signature American fare, Union Assembly is certainly a hotspot on event days. With 2.5 floors of seating options, this fun location can set the mood for your upcoming plans. You’ll find delicious pizza, super cheesy mac and cheese, triple pepper buffalo wings, and an extensive drink menu. A bonus with this spot is Mom’s Spaghetti, where you can order in the alley and feast inside around the bodega or the upstairs trailer.
UWM DISTRICT MARKET

Located alongside Woodward, UWM District Market is located in the heart of The District. Marketing Manager Kara Horstmann shares, “UWM District Market is Detroit’s midday hot spot. It’s a quick, one-stop shop for a bite to eat, coffee, or a cocktail, and features various cuisines to satisfy all tastes.” Menu options include salads, pressed paninis, handhelds, tacos, and more.
HOCKEYTOWN CAFE
2301 Woodward Avenue, Detroit
Open for more than just hockey season, Hockeytown Cafe has been representing Detroit teams since 1999. Horstmann tells us, “Hockeytown Cafe is Detroit’s favorite sports bar open year-round in The District Detroit on Woodward Avenue. New menu items include Zip Tips, Chili Boule, and The Original Turkey Dinner.” You can find quick apps, hearty entrees, and a whole bunch of handhelds here. With 3 floors, 30+ flat-screen TVs, and more, Hockeytown Cafe is the place to be on game days.
MIKE’S PIZZA BAR
2515 Woodward Avenue, Detroit
Located inside Little Caesars Arena, Mike’s Pizza Bar offers dine-in or ordering to-go. “Mike’s Pizza Bar features hand-crafted pizzas, brew on tap, and wines. This season, Mike’s Pizza Bar is expanding its menu, adding a Chix-Parm Sandwich, Jumbo Mozz Sticks, and a Meatball Skillet,” Horstmann says. Other menu items include tomato parmesan bruschetta slabs and Eastern Market pizza, which has mushrooms, roasted cherry tomatoes, onion, California olives, artichoke, and vegan cheese.
THE MIXING BOARD

“The Mixing Board is a sit-down restaurant that features made-from-scratch items from shareables to salads, flatbreads, and a full bar. New menu items include Bacon-Wrapped Dates and Firehouse Shrimp,” shares Kara Horstmann. With a Michigan-first menu made with local ingredients, this is a popular spot on event days.
BASAN
2703 Park Avenue, Detroit
With a name derived from a mythological fire-breathing rooster, Basan is a place that wows. The menu alludes to fare cooked over a robata grill, and you can certainly find the heat at Basan. On skewers, you’ll find octopus with gochujang and fried garlic, braised shiitake with ponzu aioli, fermented garlic, and sake, and meatballs with sesame and soy glaze. Small bites include ahi tuna, scallop motoyaki, miso cabbage, and more. If you’re interested in a fresh dining experience, Basan may be for you.
